Welcome to Direct-to-Device Satellite Connectivity: Foundations, Technology, and Telecom Applications
Welcome to this advanced technical course designed by the Telecommunications Education Center (TEC).
Getting Started
To get the most out of this module, we recommend that you have already completed Wireless 101 and the 5G Ecosystem courses. This background will help you better understand how Satellite Direct-to-Device (D2D) technology serves as a powerful supplement to existing terrestrial wireless networks.
Course Overview
We are currently witnessing a transformation in mobile connectivity. While traditional satellite services required specialized dishes or hardware, Satellite Direct-to-Device (D2D) technology allows standard smartphones to connect directly to satellites in orbit.
This course explores the technical foundations of D2D, the anatomy of modern communication satellites, and how these solutions extend coverage into remote, rural, and critical environments. Through scenario-driven lessons, we will examine how this "layered connectivity" improves network resilience and prepares the industry for a future of seamless, integrated service.
Who This Course Is For
This course is designed for professionals who need a solid grasp of where the industry is heading:
Project & Program Managers: To understand the new capabilities and strategic value of D2D deployments.
