Welcome to Fiber for Wireless, a course developed by the Telecommunications Education Center (TEC) to provide a clear, practical understanding of how fiber optic infrastructure enables modern wireless networks.
While wireless systems are often associated with radio signals and antennas, the vast majority of network traffic travels over fiber. From macro towers and small cells to edge computing and next-generation 5G deployments, fiber serves as the high-capacity backbone that makes reliable, high-speed connectivity possible .
This course introduces the core principles of fiber optics and examines how those principles are applied in real-world wireless environments. It is designed to help learners understand not just how fiber works, but how it is planned, deployed, and maintained in support of wireless infrastructure.
No prior fiber or engineering experience is required.
